Metheglin Mead

Metheglin refers to a type of mead that is made with herbs or spices. It's the perfect mead variation to sip during the holidays, and NOW is the ideal time to start one for this winter season! Metheglin commonly uses warm and cosy spices, such as those used to make gingerbread or mulled wine, including cinnamon, nutmeg, or clove.

  • To make Metheglin Mead, use 4 lbs of honey, 1 ounce of hops, and 15 g of root ginger per gallon.
  • Alternatively, with the same amount of honey and water, use two cloves and 10g of cinnamon bark or 5g of caraway seeds.
  • The flavourings that can be tried, but not overused, are Marjoram, balm, mace, lemon and orange peel, and cinnamon.
