The hops leaf we use in brewing is the flower of the hop plant, Humulus lupulus. which is a member of the hemp family.
Hop leaf are used primarily as a flavouring, preservative and stability agent in beer, to which they impart bitter, zesty, or citric flavours; and many people use them for various purposes in other beverages and herbal medicine.
There are four essential ingredients in beer brewing - hops being one of them the others being grain, yeast, and water.
