Beer Brewing Equipment,

When looking to brew beer, the decision is if I will brew from scratch using grains and hops or if I will use a beer-making kit.

For brewers, just starting a beer making kit is the obvious choice as these kits have improved tremendously over the years, and the equipment needed is minimal. You can be enjoying a beer as good as commercial beer in as little time as a week. As with all brews, the flavour will improve over time if you can wait a little longer.

Let's get started with the essential beer brewing equipment needed. You can purchase these items separately or as a starter kit, making them even better value for money.

  1. A fermenting vessel. These come in various sizes and have gradients marked on the outside to help you when filling them. Most beer kits are available in forty-pint sizes, indicating that the 25L bucket would be ideal.
  2. A fermenting vessel lid with a hole and grommet, the hole and grommet allow you to fix an airlock into it.
  3. An airlock. The airlock is a convenient small piece of equipment that allows the gasses to escape without letting any harmful bacteria enter your brew when half-filled with tap water.
  4. A hydrometer. An instrument to measure the gravity of your beer at the beginning and end of the fermentation. It also gives you an excellent indication of when the fermentation has finished.
  5. A long handle spoon or paddle to be able to stir the liquid in the fermentation vessel
  6. A thermometer to keep check of the temperature of your brew
  7. A syphon to transfer your beer into bottles or barrels once the fermentation is complete.
  8. Cleaner and steriliser. The most important aspect of brewing is cleaning and sterilising, as bacteria are the enemy, and nobody wants to ruin a good beer
